Diagnostic Ultrasound
What is Diagnostic Ultrasound?
Diagnostic Ultrasound is the procedure used to identify the source of your varicose or spider veins. Dr. Stafford uses state-of-the-art ultrasound to assess veins which cannot be seen through the skin and the naked eye. This careful and painless examination helps to pinpoint the source of the problem in blood flow.
Duplex ultrasound provides accurate images of the blood vessels in the legs. Ultrasound shows the direction of blood flow in the veins. This procedure is essential in order to identify the precise location(s) of leaking valves.
By obtaining an accurate mapping of the veins and exact problem areas, your physician is then able to plan a course of treatment specific to your needs. This accurate diagnostic tool greatly increases the long term success of treatments and lowers the recurrence rate.
Why Diagnostic Ultrasound?
To formulate an effective plan for the treatment of your venous disease, it is critical to diagnose the underlying problem. Diagnostic ultrasound is the tool of choice to visualize the underlying veins and create a map of the malfunctioning veins. This map will be used to create your treatment plan.
How does this Procedure work?
Ultrasound uses sound waves to bounce off tissue. The reflected sound waves are then processed to create an image of your veins. The procedure is non invasive. Dr Stafford will usually perform the ultrasound at the initial consultation.
Will it hurt?
Ultrasound is completely painless.
What are the risks involved with this procedure?
There is no significant risk associated with diagnostic ultrasound.
