Micro-Phlebectomy
What is MicroPhlebectomy?
MicroPhlebectomy is the removal or disruption of the dilated, superficial, ropey-like veins. This procedure is used to treat painful and unsightly varicose veins. This procedure is best used to treat veins that are too large for sclerotherapy and too small for laser treatments.
How does this procedure work?
Small incisions less than the width of a ballpoint pen are made near your varicose veins. Then, portions of the faulty vein are carefully removed through these incisions. By removing these portions, the remaining vein will clot off causing the vein to be eliminated.
Why MicroPhlebectomy?
Due to the small incisions, no stitches are required. It is a minimally invasive procedure that only requires local anesthesia. The procedure requires no downtimeand is done in the office, allowing our patients to resume normal activities right after their procedure.
Will it hurt?
Local anesthesia is used to alleviate discomfort during the procedure. The only thing that the patient will feel is the needle for the local anesthesia. Slight pain and occasional bruising at the treatment site is expected. Compression stockings will be needed for one week after the procedure.
Can this be performed on any part of the body?
Of course, this procedure can be performed on the breasts, face, hands etc. basically anywhere it is needed.
What are the risks involved with this procedure?
Complications are rare with this procedure. Temporary and mild discomfort at the treatment site is expected. Occasional bruising or temporary numbness may be experienced. Patients are able to return to normal activity immediately after the procedure. Daily walking is recommended. Dr. Stafford will discuss his recommendations and potential risks with you in detail during your consultation.
